Abstract:
Although environmental issues were not the main theme of most of Haavelmo’s writings, issues related to the environment are discussed in many publications with a broader focus. Haavelmo was also concerned about continued rapid population growth, and argued at several occa- sions that continued rapid population growth would have a detrimen- tal effect on the development of environmental quality. We show that this concern was well founded; the future population development is extremely important for how the future climate will develop.
