Project description

The project studies life cycle profiles of employment and use of social security benefits for immigrants from low-income countries that entered Norway between 1971 and 2000. Based on longitudinal register data, we provide descriptive evidence of how integration in the Norwegian labor market varies with years since arrival. The project will follow up the study of early labor migrants from low-income countries published in Bratsberg, Raaum, and Røed (Journal of Labor Economics, 2010). Of particular interest is whether the patterns of declining employment and rising disability rates after 10-15 years in the country documented in the prior study also apply to later arrival immigrant cohorts.
